Favorite Sword Slinger Poll

To the right I have put up a little poll. There were supposed to be more than five options. At least it kept letting me add them on. But there are five showing. I don't know what happened. I probably did something wrong. Or google is still working the bugs out. Either way, if you are so inclined to take the poll, please comment here and tell us why you chose the warrior that you did. If your preferred person is not there, vote for a runner up and say in your comment who you would have voted for if they had been there (which they might have been, before I gave the go ahead on publishing the poll). You can choose from books or movies. I'm easy like that. Vote on.

I voted for Garet Jax as a runner up. I have never read any Conan books, so I can't really vouch for him, and I was never really fond of the movies. I've always had something of a bias against poor old Drizzt, although again I haven't read those books. And although I originally liked Jon Snow quite a lot, I like him less and less in later books (I can't even define the reason, which also bothers me; there's just something about him). So things kind of defaulted to Garet Jax. I remember reading about stand against the Jachyra with great poignancy.

I'm not sure who I'd vote for as tops--I can think of several that are hard to choose from. Madmardigan, Wesley (from Princess Bride), Aragorn (definitely better than Eomer--I was just reading how he clove a great orc-chieftan's head in two in Moria). Probably Aragorn would come out on top for me.

Yeah, if I had my own choice for tops, it would probably be Aragorn. But I voted for Eomer because he rocks, too. Drizzt is out because I abhor the books he's in (haven't really read them, but from what little I've seen of them, I'm not about to try). I vaguely remember Garet Jax from (I think) the only Shannara book I could get through...I was tempted to vote for Jon Snow, but we really have to see how that series ends up before he could compete with Eomer. Madmartigan and Westley--those are two good ones.

Can't really think of any more, though...I wonder why. Are they really that few and far between?

Another thing about polls that I noticed when I put one on my own blog a while ago--they won't let you back-button out of the blog (not that I'm *so* anxious to leave, but...). :)

I think swordsman are hard to come up with. I didn't really have any problem coming up with cool fantasy warriors, but if you restrict it to swordsman the list is pitifully small. The list that was SUPPOSED to show on the poll did include Aragorn and a few others, but there aren't that many. At least that I could think of. I really enjoyed Salvatore's Drizzt books - for the kind of book that usually reads like a bad RPG experience, those stories had good characters and decent plots. You just can't pick them up expecting to get Tad Williams or George RR.

I also voted for Garet Jax. I think he could hold his own against any other swordsman in fantasy - providing that they couldn't use magic against him ala Rand Al'Thor

Of the five that made it to the poll it would be Drizzt for sure for me, though there seems to be a glitch in the voting process. The sword fights in R.A. Salvatore's books are like nothing else.

I'm not sure what is going on with this poll. There should be at least one vote for Drizzt and no votes for Jon Snow (at least no one has fessed up to voting for him).

I voted for Jon Snow.

I haven't read any Shannara books yet, so I didn't know who Jax was.

I always liked Boromir better than Eomer (poor Eomer, all he wants is someone to love him better...)

I've only encountered Conan through the current Gov. of California, so that was immediately out.

I still have no idea who Drizzt is...

I really like Jon, and I am excited to see what come next for him.
