Shifting Gears

A friend sent me an email telling me of a dark fantasy anthology that is seeking submissions this month. I've temporarily shifted from my modern cowboy stories to write a piece for the anthology. It will be a unique challenge; it is both darker and more magical than what I usually do when I write fantasy. I'm about a quarter of the way through it now. Hopefully my fingers will be more magical than usual as well.

We can always use a little more magic in our dark fantasy. Good luck.

That's cool. What, according to this anthology, is considered dark fantasy?

z - Magic in our dark fantasies is a must, I agree. Thanks.

Ben - They specifically asked for necromancy and/or living dead. I'm giving them both because it seemed like the obvious approach. I can send you the submission info if you are interested.

While I tend to like less magic in my fantasy stories, it seems essential if you're going to summoning forth the dead.

The idea of living dead and necromancy would be some interesting space to explore. I don't usually venture into such realms in my reading or writing, but it sounds like it could be fun.

Hm, living dead and necromancy ain't really my thang. I don't appreciate that subgenre enough to do it justice. However, I did just read a zombie story that I rather liked. It was alternate history where a German scientist discovered a virus that turned people into what they called "tote Mannen," essentially zombies. The rationale and science behind it was fascinating. They unleashed the tote Mannen upon the Allies in WWII, and of course they ran out of control. It was pretty horrific reading.
